Trey McIntyre Project |
 |
|
Trey McIntyre Project's innovation in bringing
dance to new and sometimes unsuspecting audiences has
just received national recognition. Trey McIntyre
Project successfully blends a compelling contemporary
point of view with the uniquely rich language of
ballet.
"When we established Trey McIntyre Project as a
fulltime company last year, part of our mission was to
spread the dance experience beyond the traditional
setting, bringing the art to people often times when
they least expect it" said Artistic Director Trey
McIntyre. An unexpected twist McIntyre and his team
brings to Audiences includes dance performances to the
music of the legendary Beatles at a basketball
half-time break, shoppers at the farmers market with
impromptu performances. McIntyre's project is designed
to build awareness for dance and for its company
through the lens of deliberate tone of today's fluid
world. The project has gained such critical acclaim
they've coined the term SpUrbans for Spontaneous Urban
Performances, which feature dancers and music
appearing seemingly out of nowhere to perform in a
bustling area and then, just as quickly, disappearing.
Additionally to SpUrbans, Trey McIntyre Project's
outreach includes providing master classes, lectures,
Q&A sessions before and after performances, school,
hospital and other special event performances.

An East End - Above All House of Dance |
 |
|
Here in Houston, motivation is embodied in Jessica
Galvan, founder of Above All House of Dance. Upon
graduating in 2005, Jessica went back to her own
neighborhood in the East End of Houston to establish
her own studio and dance company. The purpose of her
company is to serve the community by creating an
environment where kids can reach their full potential.
Jessica likes helping kids explore the different
styles of dancing. Although Jessica's own strength is
within the modern style, the studio also offers jazz,
ballet and hip hop classes. Her focus is to let
students experience and explore the different styles
and to grow through art. She believes that as dancers
learn to dance, they build character, and for that
reason dancing should be taken seriously. What's
better is that the students love it. And that is her
goal. At the studio, Galvan treats each student as her
own, giving them the necessary motivation and the
required technique.

Houston, TX - Dance Houston, Presents its 2nd Annual
Latin Dance Festival featuring hundreds of colorful
and richly choreographed performances at NCI Ripley
House located in the Historic East-End, Saturday,
November 14, 2009 starting at 6:00 pm with food and
pre-show entertainment for all to enjoy!
The festival is scheduled to begin at 6PM with the
show opening its curtain at 7pm. Complimentary food
and entertainment will available for everyone to enjoy
prior to the show and during intermission.
Performances will feature some of Houston's leading
dancers and will include traditional and innovative
performances highlighting some of the most beautiful
and passionate styles of dance from Latin America.
There will be something for everyone. Bellas Danzas
Latin Dance festival con Funk will include flamenco,
ballet folklorico, tango, salsa, merengue, kumbia, cha
cha, samba, afro-caribbean. Dance Houston is eager to
unveil its "con Funk" programming which has dance
companies performing young innovative Latin dances
with a mix of street smart. This festival has been
designed as casual, fun, exciting and for the entire
family; all that is required is that you bring your
inner rhythm.
When Andrea Cody, Founder and Executive Director of
Dance Houston was asked why a Latin Dance Festival,
she shared "While visiting Mexico a few years ago I
had the opportunity to attend a street festival where
I was able to see, feel and enjoy a variety of Latin
dances and a culture of celebration through dance and
music. People danced in their seats, the street, and
most importantly they celebrated each other, it left
me inspired knowing I had experienced authentic
flavor, joy, and love! After searching something
similar in Houston, although I found festivals with a
hint of what I had experienced in Mexico, I did not
find what I know can be a sensational program of "SABOR".
The goal of Dance Houston and me is to bring together
people to experience Latin dance on one stage and
leave with a deeper appreciation of a fusion of
culture."
