Pat Graney's House of Mind Will Blow Yours |
 |
|
World-renowned choreographer, Pat Graney's latest
work, House of Mind, is a cutting-edge
performance/installation illustrating Graney's
mental landscape and amalgamates female memory,
collective unconscious, and family and cultural
histories. Graney creates an expansive kinesthetic
sense of her work that takes the audience on an
intense and thought-provoking journey through her
past and her mother's battles with Alzheimer's
disease.
The public is invited to tour the installation, a
multi- sensory experience that physically manifests
aspects her mind, and then experience a
choreographed performance, in which each viewer's
experience will be as unique as memory itself.
Premiering last weekend, January 30 and 31, final
performances will be held February 5, 6, and 7, 2009
at 7:30pm at the DiverseWorks Theater. The
installation will be open to the public from January

Review of Triple Focus |
 |
|
On January 24th we saw "Triple Focus", a show
featuring Revolve Dance Company, Urgeworks, and
Uptown Dance Company. It was a nicely balanced show,
as each company was given a chance to show its own
uniqueness and individual strength. The objective of
the show was to present an evening of current
contemporary dance by commissioning a new work from
each company as well as presenting a work from the
group's repertoire. There were some experimental
choices made by the choreographers but none that
went so far as to alienate the enthusiastic crowd.
As a whole, the experimentation yielded positive
results, giving the audience a nice, fresh program
that esacped dance cliché.

Summer Camp Registration Now Open
|
|
|
|
Once again, Dance Houston is holding a popular
annual summer dance camp for kids ages 12-17! We've
been calling it "Young and Intense" but don't let
the name scare you. Classes are designed for any
skill level, from beginner to advance. What is
intense about our camp is that it last for 3 weeks,
Mondays - Fridays, 8am - 5pm at the Wortham Theater
Center and this year the dates are from August 3-21.
Our camp covers a wide range of dance styles
including hip hop, contemporary, jazz and
international dance, just to name a few. At the end
of camp, there is a wonderful public performance at
the Wortham Theater where the kids can show off
their new moves!
Please check our website now for registration
information. If you have any questions about camp
between now and then, call us at (713) 526-1049. We
would be happy to hear from you!
